On the 10th of June, Emphasys Centre, Cyprus Energy Agency, and CitizensACT joined forces to host an exciting and educational event called “BLOCKS & ROOTS” for kids.

The event aimed to blend fun and learning, inspiring the next generation of climate champions!

Faneromeni School holds a special place in the history of Cyprus, being one of the oldest and most iconic educational institutions. Recently, a transformation took place within its walls, as the school evolved into a department of the University of Cyprus. As a result, the schoolchildren had to relocate to another school in the area.
It was truly heartwarming to witness their return to their educational “ROOTS” during this event and utilize their yard with them!

The kids had the chance to participate in our Climate Change Awareness and Craft Workshop, and engage in two fascinating activities:

  • Jenga for Climate Change: Through an interactive Jenga game they explored the effects of climate change on our environment.
  • DIY Self-Watering Pots: We believe in the power of recycling! Children got hands-on experience creating their very own self-watering pots using recycled plastic bottles. By repurposing materials, we emphasize the importance of sustainability.
Our event aimed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and environmental consciousness in a fun and engaging way.

The objectives of the event were in line with the Erasmus+ Project ‘Wake Up Cities’ that aims to integrate urban science methods such as placemaking and public participation. Therefore, CitizensACT took this opportunity to spread the word about this fascinating project and raise awareness about placemaking!

It was an excellent opportunity for kids to learn, share, and connect with like-minded friends!

Special thanks to the Laboratory of Urbanism at the University of Cyprus (LUCY) for offering the yard of Faneromeni School.

Together, we can make a difference!
